Many patients ask us if the presence of an implant can prevent the radiological detection of breast cancer. Taking into account that one in seven women will develop breast cancer throughout their lives, the issue is not trivial. Multiple studies have been carried out in recent decades and they all agree on the absence of interference in the implant when detecting malignant tumors. In both mammography and ultrasound, the implant is seen completely separated from the gland and if the radiologist has any doubts, he can always request an MRI. Below we leave you the explanation of our radiologist, Dr Manuel Delgado, specialist in breast ultrasound at the Doce de Octubre Hospital.
