Gynecomastia (Mammary gland in men)

Gynecomastia is excess mammary gland in men. We remove it by liposuction, open resection or a combination of both. Additionally, in rare cases it may be necessary to remove some skin around the areola.

SURGERY SHEET

ENTRY NIGHTIt’s not necesary
DURATION OF SURGERYBetween 1 and 2 hours.
BREAST ULTRASOUNDBefore surgery to rule out nodules.
POSTOPERATIVE BINDERIf necessary, a tight-fitting T-shirt or Velcro band.
DRAINSThey are not usually necessary

LIPOSUCTION ONLY

When excess breast volume is due to the accumulation of fat or in those cases where we are also going to liposuction other areas of the body, liposuction would be the ideal technique. Does not leave visible scars.

OPEN RESECTION

In thin patients where there is only the presence of the mammary gland, with a low body mass index, and in those cases where there are nodules or masses that must be biopsied, we opt for open resection through the areolar route. It leaves an almost invisible scar at the level of the areola. It is usually not necessary to leave drains.

COMBINATION

Sometimes it is necessary to combine liposuction and open resection to obtain an optimal result and ensure absolute removal of the gland.

FREQUENT RISKS

  • Recurrence of the gland: the gland can grow again and it would be necessary, in addition to other medical tests (ultrasound, hormonal tests), to remove it again.
  • Seroma: Sometimes fluid can accumulate between the muscle and the skin. In these cases it will be necessary to remove it by puncturing it in consultation. Very rarely does it require another operation.
